Jim Masura
- Owner and Founder
Jim founded Talon Aviation in 1992 after retiring from
the U.S. Air Force, a career that lasted 26 years and logged over 15,000
hours in various cargo aircraft.
He obtained his FAA A&P in 1992 and holds an FAA Inspection
Authorization. Jim's love for
aviation began at the age of 14 when he helped rebuilt an old Civil Air
Patrol Stinson L-5. He got his
glider rating at age 15, before he had his driver's license, and received
his powered private at age 19.
Jim has been an aviation enthusiast from the start.
Jim, his wife Judy, and son Jimmy all fly the family 1951 Piper
Tri-pacer, which was rebuilt from a basket case in the family garage.
After years of flying and fixing old aircraft, Jim is considered a
true aerospace archeologist who enjoys the challenge of keeping airplanes
where they belong in the air.
Dope and fabric, sheet metal, and keeping engines running smoothly are just
a few of the specialties Jim brings to the company.
Ernie Janes
- Shop Foreman
Ernie started his
career in aviation as a teenager.
Even at that young age, he knew were his interests lay, and he
tailored his earliest education with that goal in mind.
He started as an apprentice in 1985, received his A&P in 1988, and
his IA in 1991. Ernie ran his
own maintenance shop in Texas, just south of Houston, until 1996 when his
career took him to Fairbanks, Alaska.
In Alaska, he worked for several 135 operators and had lessons in
critical thinking and problem solving driven home.
In Alaska he became a craftsman of the trade.
Family brought him, his wife Nancy, and his daughter Samantha home to
Washington where he went to work for Talon Aviation early in 2004.
In short order, he was able to claim knowledge of and expertise with
yet another aircraft, the Lake.
Taught by one of the most experienced Lake Aircraft professionals in the
Northwest, Ernie is now considered a skilled Lake mechanic.
Whether Ernie is practicing his hobbies of barbeque cooking and
computer repair or using his vast experience and natural aptitude for
aviation mechanics to keep planes in the air and running well, Ernie is a
real company asset. His 23
years of experience in the general aviation field are a benefit to the
company and it's customers. If
a plane has a problem, Ernie can fix it.
Chris Daza - Lead Mechanic
Chris started work for Talon aviation in 1999 as an
apprentice. He received his A&P
with honors in 2001 from Clover Park Tech with a 4.0 grade point average.
Since his hire, Chris has proven to be a steadfast technician with a
keen eye and excellent technical abilities on the Lake or any other
aircraft. His skills will take
Talon Aviation far into the future, as not many out there have his aptitude
or dedication to duty.
Moe Joe - Company
Dog & Mascot
While young, Moe Joe has already discovered a real
passion for aviation. He can
often be found at the airport at the heels of Ernie or Jim learning what he
can. He has absolute faith in
the people of Talon Aviation and sees first hand how hard they work to get a
job done right. While his love
for flight, airplanes, and of coarse tennis balls keeps him from a promising
advertising career, he developed the company slogan, "Airplane problems, big
or small? Talon Aviation can
fix them all." Moe Joe brings
energy and enthusiasm to his duties as company mascot and hopes to see you
soon.
